Day 39 Notes

The weather bomb hit the entire country and the normally settled central Otago was not immune so I got a good soaking today. This was a shame as today I did the majority of the Otago Rail Trail. Started in Hyde and ended up in Alexandra. This is a well-known trail I saw many cyclists doing it despite the weather. I think it was compounded by the fact that I was doing the trail backwards, most people would come from Alexandra to Hyde, I passed a great number of people on bikes which is fantastic to see. The  stand out section had to be from Oturehua to Omakau with the rocky tunnels and iconic bridges. this section wax short but packed with stunning scenery .  As luck would have it, it cleared up when I arrived in Alexandra the silver lining is that it allowed me to work on the bike in the dry, needed to work on the gears as they were sticking.

See GPS data here
