Day 5 -6
was a trip from Auckland to Morrinsville. The trip started with a ferry trip to
Coromandel and I was joined by my friend Paul.
Logistics allowed us to ride our road bikes from Coromandel to Thames.
This stretch of road is magic though a little narrow at places due to the geography but
each time I ride this stretch of road the wow factor never goes away. The trip
from the Coromandel ferry to Thames was a little shorter than expected at 55km. We then switched from the roadies
to the mountain bikes to tackle the Hauraki rail trail. The trip from Thames
to Paeroa was flat and easy with lots and lots of cattle gates, the trail is in
good condition. The stop at Paeroa had
to involve a can of L&P of course and then on our way to Te Aroha. Lots more cattle gates and I reckon we must have covered a total of 1km in gates alone. The big learning for the day was
to tie down the bottle on the back of the bike as I lost a bottle on the
trail. It was then on to Morrinsville to
have a lovely catch up with the family.
